DORBA Fall Series – LB Houston #1

The first sprint race of the DORBA Fall Series was certainly an exciting race for the team.  We had new riding members who recently joined the team, Shane Walden, Wes Salas, and Logan Davis race along with 8 other racing members.  While we’re still looking for that first podium of the season, our hard work is definitely showing now that the sprint season is back!  All of our racers improved from past sprint races in the standings, and we were only one off the podium in the Cat 2 single speed division with Brandon Schrader’s personal best 4th overall placing.  Braden Barnett also got a personal best 7th place in the Cat 3 19 -29 division.

We were also leading the Cat 3, 40 – 49 division with two of our racers, but the mountain bike racing gods weren’t very kind to us with a flat tire of our leader, Minh Nguyen, and a crash out from Keith McDonald who was in a close second at the time.  We’re happy he’s ok, and know he’s going to use it as motivation for the next race in the series.

Furthermore, James Henson did his 6th race this season, the most of any team member, by entering the Cat 1 60 + division.  He finished 3rd out of 3 entries, but what’s interesting is he showed up a bit late for the Cat 3 race.  We’re very glad too, because he burned through 2 fast laps to finish the race with a little extra coin in his pocket!

Here are the overall results from the race:

  • Cat 1 60 plus
  • Cat 2 SS
  • Cat 3 19 -29
    • Braden Barnett, 7th Place out of 25, 0:38:33

    • Brad Wendling, 13th Place out of 41, 0:38:49
    • Shane Walden, 14th Place out of 41, 0:38:53
    • Wes Salas, 15th Place out of 41, 0:39:06
  • Cat 3 40 – 49
    • Keith McDonald, 40th Place out of 43, 0:45:28 (mechanical)

What a showing the team put up at the final race of this endurance series!  A 1st Place spot in the Team Open category was awarded to Minh Nguyen (KOM of the 8 mile loop, btw) and Keith McDonald.  This is our first 1st place award for our new racing team!  Also, Randy Davis improved 4 places in just his second solo endurance event to date, finishing just out of the top ten in 11th Place in the solo under 39 category.  Brad Wendling completed his first solo endurance race after coming back from an injury during a crash.

We entered 10 total racers for this event to continue a strong showing, and are gaining traction in the area.  Up next, we switch back to sprint racing for the DORBA Fall Series, which looks to be fast and tough!  See the full DORBA Fall race series schedule here.  Look for us at LB Houston on August 18th for the first race of the series.

Dusty and hot, River Legacy Park proved to be another fast and nimble course for our largest racing turnout to date!  We entered 4 pairings for the Team Open category and our first Solo entries.  We definitely upped the anti in the Team cat, and turned it out with an awesome performance from our Solo entries.  Martin House Brewing, Co. and Beard Head provided samples for everyone to enjoy!  It was a great day for the Bearded Women Racing team.  The next and last race of the series will be July 27th at Cedar Hill State Park in Cedar Hill, TX.  Please stop by our tent and ask about our sponsor samples.  *Limited supplies available.

Smurf Boy – Rowlett Creek Preserve, June 29, 2013

The first race of what was supposed to be a 4 race endurance series, but after a rain out Rowlett Creek Preserve proved to be a fast and nimble course.  We secured a prime spot next to the transition and area, and mingled early on with the other teams.  Lights are needed with these races, which is always a bit of extra fun added! The team registered 3 pairings in the Team Open category.  All successfully completed the race, without much incident.  A mechanical slowdown Kyle and Randy, but overall it was a good training race for the final two left in the series.  The next race will be July 13th at River Legacy Park in Arlington, TX.

Prayer Mountain Pedal, May 1, 2013

There are races that everyone gets really excited about, and know they’re going to go really, really fast.  The Prayer Mountain Pedal, is NOT that race.  This is a grueling, climbing course in the escarpments of southwest Dallas County overlooking the rest of the state to the west.  It’s truly the one place in all of North Texas where you feel a bit like you’re in the Hill Country of Central Texas.

The fellas that raced definitely made their marks and performed really well!  We took another 5th place overall in Cat 2 SS from Brandon Schrader, and ratcheted up the Cat 3 division to gain some racing credibility.  Also, we met two new guys we invited on the team, Randy Davis and Braden Barnett.

Here are the results from the race:

  • Category 2, SS (single speed)
    • Brandon Schrader, 5th Place, 1:37:05
  • Category 2, 20 – 29
  • Category 3, 30 -39
  • Category 3, 40 – 49
    • Keith McDonald, 15th Place, 0:51:24
  • Category 3, 50 – 99
